LAHORE, Jan 31 (APP):Pakistan Cricket Board’s independent adjudicator on Wednesday rejected disgraced cricketer Khalid Latif’s plea against his five years ban for his involvement in the spot fixing scandal of the second edition
of Pakistan Super League (PSL) last year in UAE.
Adjudicator Justice (retd) Faqir Muhammad Khokhar during a hearing of the plea here on Wednesday, upheld the decision of PCB’s anti corruption tribunal of awarding five years ban to the cricketer who was found guilty of spot fixing and breaches of the PCB’s anti corruption code.
However, the adjudicator waived off the fine of Rs one million which was imposed on the cricketer whose career has already finished in the game.
Tafazzul Rizvi, PCB’s legal advisor while talking to the media said the decision of adjudicator will serve a lesson for others.
“Definitely it is going to set an example for others as a warning (deterrent) as PCB is not fond of imposing such punishments or bans and we are positive that such decisions will help in cleaning
the game from corrupt practices”, he said.
A spokesman of the PCB while commenting on the outcome of the plea told APP “PCB has zero tolerance on corruption in cricket and it is dealing such culprits with an iron hand through a transparent courseof legal proceedings”.
