ISLAMABAD, Feb 07 (APP): Pakistan completed a dominant 5-0 whitewash against Senegal to clinch the Davis Cup Group II tie after winning all singles and doubles matches at the Pakistan Tennis Federation Complex on Saturday.
Pakistan took a commanding lead on the opening day by winning both singles encounters. Muzammil Murtaza gave the hosts a confident start, defeating Senegal’s Nicolas Jadoun 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 to put Pakistan 1-0 ahead in the tie.
Veteran Aqeel Khan then strengthened Pakistan’s position with a hard-fought victory over Seydina Andre, winning 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 to give Pakistan a 2-0 advantage at the end of the first day.
Pakistan sealed the tie in the doubles as the experienced pair of Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Muzammil Murtaza overcame Senegal’s Seydina Andre and Nicolas Jadoun in straight sets, winning 7-6, 7-6 to extend the lead to 3-0.
In the reverse singles, first match Pakistan got walkover, while Muhammad Shoaib wrapped up the tie, winning the fixture in emphatic fashion against Nicolas Jadoun 7-5, 6-2 in the final rubber.
