ISLAMABAD, Oct 18 (APP): Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada said on Tuesday that Pakistan was secure to hold all types of international events.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of Yonex-Sunrise International Badminton Series 2016 here at Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex, the minister said the government’s efforts to elminiate menace of terrorism had been successful as peace had returned to the country.

Lauding Pakistan Badminton Federation for holding the event in Islamabad, he expressed the hope that more such events would take place in Pakistan in the future.

“It is heartening to note that national sports federations have started to hold international events. This is a good sign for promotion of sports in the country,” he said.

The minister said the government was trying its best to promote sports in the country. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had great interest in sports and wanted to see Pakistani athletes perform well at international events, he added.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Palwasha Bashir, Amir Saeed, Shameer Iftikhar, Mahnoor Shahzad, Zohaib Khan, Anjum Bashir, Jamil Soban, Saima Manzoor won their respective matches on the opening day of the event in their respective categories.
