ISLAMABAD, Oct 17 (APP): Pakistan staged a remarkable comeback to hold Australia to an exciting 3–3 draw in their 2025 Sultan of Johor Cup encounter at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Bahru, Malaysia on Friday.

Australia made a flying start, netting twice in the opening quarter through Toby Mallon (6th minute) and Oscar Sproule (9th minute) to put Pakistan under early pressure. However, the Green Shirts fought back with determination, gradually turning the tide of the game.

Star forward Shahid Hannan spearheaded Pakistan’s recovery, scoring a brace — first in the 38th minute and then in the 47th minute — both field goals coming off well-coordinated attacking moves. Saif Ullah added Pakistan’s third in the 57th minute, bringing the match level in dramatic fashion.

For Australia, Ian Grobbelaar scored in the 47th minute to extend his team’s lead temporarily, but Pakistan’s spirited performance in the final quarter ensured they walked away with a valuable point from the contest.

Both sides showed attacking flair and resilience, with several penalty corners awarded throughout the game. Despite missed chances on both ends, the match remained a thrilling display of youth hockey talent and competitive spirit.
