Pakistan are a much better side: Abdul Qadir

ISLAMABAD, July 14 (APP): Former leg-spin wizard Abdul Qadir believes Pakistan are a better side and their bowling will give them an edge over England in the four-match Test series.

“On paper Pakistan are a much better team. But it is their unpredictability which is matter of concern,” he told APP.

Qadir took 236 wickets in 67 Tests and his best performance for a series was 30 wickets for 437 runs, against England in 1987.

To a question he said that leg-spinner Yasir Shah could only prove trump card for Pakistan if he gets some turning tracks.

“He will be instrumental if he manages to do even 20 to 30 per cent of that which I did in 1982,” he said while recalling the 1982 Lord’s Test when his six-wicket haul played a key role in Pakistan’s historic win over England.

He said though England’s performance had been outstanding in the series against Sri Lanka, they should be knowing that Pakistan were altogether a different side. “Contrary to Sri Lanka we’ve world’s quality fast bowlers. They can rip apart any batting line.

“They (Sri Lanka) were missing the experience of Sangarkkara and Jayawardene. But we’ve likes of Younus Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq in our team, who can lead from the front,” he added.

Qadir, however urged Pakistan batsmen to show consistency if they wanted to win the series against England.
