Pakistan a safe country to host sport event: Lt Gen Sadiq Ali

LAHORE, Oct 21 (APP)- Corps Commander Lahore, Lt General Sadiq Ali has said that Pakistan is a peaceful and safe country to host elite sports events.

“The visit of the Australian army cricket team is of greater importance and it will convey a positive message to the world that Pakistan is a safe country for sports activities,” he said here on Friday after distributing prizes among the players of Pakistan Youth XI and the visiting Australian army teams after a T20 match at Gadaffi stadium.

Lt Gen Sadiq expressed the hope that other teams from abroad will visit Pakistan in due course of time.

“The members of the visiting team after their return to their country will help in creating a better and positive image of Pakistan which is a safe country for sports activities,” he asserted.

He congratulated both the teams for playing high quality cricket and said players from both the sides entertained with their good game.

Australian high commissioner to Pakistan, Peter Heyward termed the hospitality extended to the visiting Australian side ‘exemplary’.

“Australian army team is enjoying playing cricket here in Pakistan as best arrangements have been made for it,” he said adding “both the teams exhibited sportsmen spirit and played cricket to best of their abilities.”

Najam Sathi, Chairman, PCB Executive Committee, said cricket plays a pivotal role in bringing closer people from across the globe.

“With the visit of the Australian army team, the other teams will also visit Pakistan in near future,” he said.
