Pak team to participate in Power lifting C’ship

ISLAMABAD, Oct 7 (APP): A nine member Pakistan team will
participate in the Asia Oceania Power lifting Championship scheduled to be held in New Zealand from December 4 to 11.

Talking to APP, Twinkle Sohail who clinched a gold medal in
2015 Asian Power lifting (bench press) Championship said as many as nine players (five male and four female) will participate in the championship.

“The players include Azhar Butt (105kg), Nadeem Hashmi
(120kg), Malik Rashid (95kg), Muhammad Adnan (120kg), Muhammad Asif (120kg), Saima Shahzad (53kg), Sinya Gaffor (58kg), Twinkle Sohail (58kg) and Neelum Raiz (63kg),” she said.

She said power lifting needs the same type of attention as
given to cricket, hockey and squash.

“No game can flourish without the support from the government and sponsors,” she said.

She said more and more competitions need to be organized at district and national level in order to encourage the game and talent.

“We are not getting facilities which are needed according to
the international standard,” she said.
