Over six thousand candidates contesting LB polls in Hyderabad division

HYDERABAD, Oct 21 (APP): Some 6,034 candidates will contest the local
government elections scheduled for November 19 in the 7 out of 9 districts of Hyderabad division.
The Regional Election Commission has not yet finalized the list of
candidates from Hyderabad and Jamshoro districts while those of the Badin, Dadu, Matiari, Sujawal, Thatta, Tando Allahyar and Tando Muhammad Khan have been completed.
According to the details obtained from the REC here, 1,646 candidates
are contesting in Badin district where 684,998 people, including 365,650 male and 319,338 female, are registered to vote.
Among them, 193 are competing for the seats of chairmen and vice
chairmen and 248 for Members District Council and 750 for General Members in the 68 Union Councils (UCs) of District Council Badin.
Another 157 candidates for the 26 wards of 2 Municipal Committees (MC)
and 298 for 64 wards in 10 Town Committees (TCs).
In Dadu, which has 647,344 voters, including 351,294 male and 296050
female, 1,328 candidates will land in the electoral fray with 160 vying for chairmen and vice chairmen, 161 Members District Council and 750 General Members for 66 UCs in District Council Dadu.
As many as 157 candidates will compete for 47 wards of 3 MCs and 298 for
34 wards of 5 TCs.
Likewise, a total of 730 candidates including 95 for chairmen and vice
chairmen, 102 for Members District Council and 309 General Members have been fielded for 30 UCs in District Council Matiari, 64 for 16 wards in an MC and 160 for 31 wards in 6 TCs.
The total registered voters in Matiari are 308,374 with some 162,076
male and 146,298 female.
In Sujawal, where 316,982 people having 171,991 male and 144,991 female
voters among them are eligible to cast their ballot, 734 candidates will fight the LG elections.
They comprise 101 contestants for slots of chairmen and vice
chairmen,131 for Members District Council and 346 for General Members 37 UCs in District Council Sujawal as well as 156 for 32 wards in 5 TCs.
The neighbouring Thatta district, which has 399,761 voters having
215,002 male and 184,759 female, the election contest will be among 718 candidates with some 32 standing for 9 wards in an MC and 92 for 23 wards in 5 TCs.
As many as 94 candidates will vie for the positions of chairmen and vice
chairmen, 126 for Members District Council and 374 for General Members in 40 UCs in District Council Thatta.
Similarly, 468 contenders including 47 for chairmen and vice chairmen,
151 for General Members and 57 for Members District Council for 25 UCs and 114 for 25 wards in an MC and 99 for 27 wards in 5 TCs will contest in Tando Allahyar district.
The district’s registered voters number at 322,887 voters consisting of
171,105 male and 151,782 female voters.
The coterminous districts of Tando Muhammad Khan with its 247,717
voters, 134,594 male and 113,123 female, will witness an electoral battle among 410 candidates.
The district has 54 competitors for the slots of chairmen and vice
chairmen, 210 for General Members and 68 for Members District Council for 28 UCs in District Council Tando Muhammad Khan.
Another 50 candidates have been finalized for the elections to 19 wards
in an MC and 28 for 9 wards in 2 TCs in Tando Muhammad Khan.
