New academies for running, fencing, gymnastics and cycling announced

LAHORE, Jul 11 (APP): A meeting was held under the chairmanship of DG Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi, in which a detailed review of the ongoing training activities in sports academies across the province, the performance of coaches and the capabilities of players was taken.
All sports coaches of Punjab attended the meeting, while Commissioner Inland Revenue Behzad Anwar, Director Admin Abid Shaukat, Deputy Director Zahoor Ahmed and other relevant officers were also present. Coaches of various sports gave a briefing on the training of players in their respective sports academies, available facilities and arrangements.
DG Sports Muhammad Tariq Qureshi announced that inter-academy competitions will be held among the players of the Chief Minister Punjab Sports Academies in August to assess the capabilities of the players and bring forward talented talent.
He said that a pool of 5,000 talented players is being prepared from all over Punjab to prepare them for national and international level competitions. He said that the National Games, Punjab Games and SAIF Games are to be held next year, in view of which, full preparation of the players is underway.
Muhammad Tariq Qureshi further said that the number of sports in the Chief Minister Punjab Sports Academies is being increased from 19 to 25, while new sports academies of running, fencing, gymnastics and cycling are also being established so that the youth can be provided opportunities to progress in more sports.
