Need to hold sports activities in educational institutions: Rana Ikram

ISLAMABAD, Mar 24 (APP): International Kabaddi Umpire Rana Muhammad Ikram believes for the development of sports in the country, there was a dire need of holding sports activities at educational institutions on regular basis.

Kabaddi is our cultural game and immense Kabaddi talent exists in the rural areas of the country that needs to be brought to fore, he told APP.

To a question, he said Pakistani athletes have made the country and nation proud by winning laurels at the international level.

He said therefore it was very important for the government to encourage the athletes who have been performing with all their might in sports.

Praising the services of Muhammad Sarwar Rana, Secretary General of Pakistan Kabaddi Federation for the promotion of Kabaddi in the country, he said Rana becoming the Secretary General of World Kabaddi Federation was a great honour for the country and nation.

The international umpire said that no sport can develop without the patronage of the government and sponsors.

The private sector should also focus on other sports just like cricket as to further promote and encourage others games as well, he said.
