PESHAWAR, Jun 11 (APP):Young sprinter Atta Ullah has emerged as one of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s most promising athletics talents after securing first position in the 100-metre race at the National Junior Championship with an impressive timing of 10.56 seconds.
On the track of Islamia College Peshawar, Atta Ullah has set his sights on representing Pakistan at the international level and winning gold medals in future Asian Junior and South Asian Federation (SAF) Games competitions.
Former international athlete Habib ur Rehman Afridi, who won gold medals in the 200m and 400m events at the Pakistan Junior Athletics Meet in Gujranwala in 1983, expressed confidence in the young athlete’s future.
“Atta Ullah possesses the passion, discipline and commitment required to excel at the highest level. He has the potential to earn distinction for Pakistan in future Asian and SAF Games,” Afridi said.
According to sports officials, Atta Ullah clocked 10.56 seconds during training and further improved his performance to 10.54 seconds in another race, highlighting his steady progress and growing potential in sprinting.
Afridi said Islamia College had a rich tradition of producing outstanding athletes, including renowned sprinters Zafar Iqbal and Iqbal Shinwari, adding that Atta Ullah was carrying forward that legacy.
He urged the sports authorities to provide financial assistance, quality coaching and training opportunities to the young athlete to help him achieve his full potential.
“Talented athletes like Atta Ullah require timely support and encouragement. With proper training and institutional backing, he can compete successfully at the international level and bring laurels to the country,” he said.
Atta Ullah said his immediate goal was to continue improving his timings and earn a place in Pakistan’s national athletics squad.
The young sprinter’s achievements have generated excitement among athletics enthusiasts in the province, who view him as a future star capable of reviving the country’s sprinting tradition.
