Mountaineer Asma Mushtaq loses life during descent from Spantik
ISLAMABAD, Aug 20 (APP):Pakistani mountaineer Asma Mushtaq lost her life during the descent from Spantik peak (7,027 metres) in the Karakoram range, the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) said Thursday.
According to the ACP, Mushtaq successfully reached the summit of Spantik in good health. However, during her descent at approximately 6,400 metres, she suffered a serious high altitude medical emergency and could not survive despite the immediate efforts of her mountain guides.
ACP President Maj. Gen. (retd) Irfan Arshad Khan, and the entire team of the club expressed profound grief and sorrow over her tragic passing.
The club acknowledged the courage and dedication of the mountain guides who stayed with her and did everything within their ability to assist her under extremely challenging conditions.
“The President and entire team of ACP extend their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends and loved ones of Mrs. Asma Mushtaq. We stand with the family and the entire mountaineering community during this difficult time,” said ACP Senior Vice President Karrar Haidri.
He prayed that Allah Almighty grant her eternal peace and give her family strength and patience to bear this irreparable loss.
