Miandad, Sarfraz hold Waqar responsible for defeat

ISLAMABAD, Nov 18 (APP): Former Cricketers Javed Miandad and Sarfraz Nawaz on Wednesday expressed disappointment on Pakistan’s third ODI loss against England saying the responsibility of the defeat lies with not only the captain but with the team management as well, particularly the coach Waqar Younis.
Pakistan lost the third ODI to England by six wickets while the second
ODI by 95 runs. Pakistan only won the first ODI by six wickets and the last
ODI will be played will be played on November 20.
Talking to APP, Miandad alleged that the Playing XI is selected
keeping in view the likes and dislikes of Waqar so the responsibility of the
defeat lies to a large extent on him.
Minadad claimed that opening batsman Ahmed Shahzad has also been
a victim of liking and disliking as he was not included in the ODIs because
he had some disciplinary issues with the coach and team management.
“My question to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee
is that if Ahmed had disciplinary issues with the coach and team management
than why is he included in the Twenty-20s and not ODIs?”
He said it is only nepotism by the coach and management which is
damaging the players and team’s performance. Speaking about Ex England
captain Michael Vaughan who has raised doubts on Pakistan’s loss to
England in the third ODI, Miandad said he doesn’t want to comment on it
but it is time to bring in a new coach.
Former Test Cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz said captain Azhar Ali and
coach Waqar is responsible for the defeat. Commenting on the Vaughan’s
allegations, Sarfraz said Waqar was also the coach on the Pakistan tour to
England in 2010 when the controversies occurred regarding trio Muhammad
Amir, Muhammad Asif and Salman Butt and now see another debate is on
the go.
“I feel Waqar should be removed and a new coach should be brought
in,” he said.
Sarfraz said Azhar should also be questioned regarding Vaughan’s
allegations and an inquiry report should be conducted on priority basis.
“Coach and players need to have fear of God in them,” he said.
