ISLAMABAD, Sep 16 (APP): The President of Iranian Football Federation, Mehdi Taj, has expressed his delight at the prospect of welcoming Portuguese Football Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to Tehran.

According to a private news channel’s report on Saturday, he emphasized the significance of Ronaldo’s presence, stating, “his presence holds great importance for us as we seek to foster interactions with international football communities.”

Ronaldo’s team, Al-Nassr, is set to compete against Persepolis at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on Tuesday, September 19, with the return game scheduled for Wednesday, November 27, in Riyadh.

The Iranian populace is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to witness Ronaldo in action on their home turf.

In a noteworthy development, the Asian Football Confederation termed it ‘a groundbreaking agreement’ between the Iranian and Saudi football federations. This agreement allows clubs to host matches in their home stadiums and visit each other’s away stadiums, promising a more immersive and thrilling experience for both fans and players.

It’s worth mentioning that matches between Iranian and Saudi teams have been played on neutral ground since 2016 due to strained diplomatic relations between the two nations. However, tensions eased after both countries reached a China-brokered deal in March to restore diplomatic relations, paving the way for this significant sports event.
