LHC stays construction of Canal Stadium in Faisalabad

LAHORE, Oct 22 (APP): The Lahore High Court on Thursday
stayed construction of Canal Cricket Stadium in Faisalabad.
Justice Ibad ur Rehman Lodhi passed the orders on a
petition filed by Qaisar Mushtaq challenging construction of
stadium on land which was leased out to him.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel arguing
before the court submitted that the stadium was being
constructed on a piece of land which was located at Canal Road
Faisalabad, he said the 10-Acre land was leased out to
him in 1988 but the district administration cancelled the
lease illegally and started construction of the stadium on it.
He pleaded the court to issue directions for restoration of
his lease.

Mengal along cricketer Seead Ajmal appeared before the court
on being summoned. He apprised the court that the lease was
cancelled as legal formalities were not fulfilled for the
purpose besides imposition of fine. He said that the land
could not be allotted to the former lessee as per Apex Court
verdicts.
He said an MoU had been signed with Saeed Ajmal
cricket Academy which would provide training to the teenagers
at the stadium.
However, the court stayed the construction of canal
stadium and sought further arguments from both parties while
adjourning the hearing till November 17.
