KARACHI, Dec 06 (APP): Kickboxer Agha Kaleem defeated his Israeli opponent in a Pro-Fight, winning the ‘World Cup Tournament’ in Baku, Azerbaijan.
He received a warm welcome at Karachi Airport by hundreds of fans and sports lovers upon his return the previous night, after winning a gold medal, a title belt, and the tournament cup, a communique said on Saturday.
Agha Kaleem, who was born in Quetta and now lives in Karachi, has secured numerous victories in national and international competitions. He is a four-time Asian champion, two-time world champion, four-time professional kickboxing champion, and two-time national champion.
Kaleem said he has participated in 11 international events; however, he lamented that he has not received any financial support from either the Sindh or Balochistan governments. He added that the Balochistan government has not announced any assistance so far.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab had announced a cash award for him when he first travelled abroad, but Kaleem said he ultimately received only Rs100,000.
He also said that he has been able to participate in international tournaments thanks to the private sponsorship of overseas Pakistanis living in the United States and Australia.
