ISLAMABAD, Jun 02 (APP):Director of Sports and Co-curricular Activities at the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Javed Ali Memon, has been elected as an Executive Member of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF).
Memon is the first-ever HEC representative to be elected to the PFF Executive Committee, following elections conducted under the supervision of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). His election marks a significant milestone in fostering collaboration between academic institutions and national sports bodies, said a press release.
His appointment to the Executive Committee is a recognition of his tireless efforts in promoting sports within Pakistani universities and nurturing youth development. Under his leadership, university-level sports have seen a remarkable revival, with numerous inclusive and impactful events encouraging student participation and athletic growth.
Through the Prime Minister’s Talent Hunt Youth Sports League—a flagship initiative of the Government of Pakistan focusing on twelve key sports, including football—Memon has played a vital role in identifying and nurturing young talent. Several players discovered through this program have already represented Pakistan at national and international levels, showcasing the success of grassroots development efforts.
In addition, Memon serves on the Prime Minister’s Task Force on e-Sports, where he is shaping the future of digital sports in Pakistan and expanding opportunities for youth engagement in emerging sporting platforms.
Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of HEC and the Pakistan University Sports Board (PUSB), emphasized the importance of university-level competitions in promoting physical well-being and athletic excellence. He reaffirmed HEC’s commitment to grassroots sports development and urged aspiring young athletes to take full advantage of the opportunities provided through intervarsity competitions.
Javed Memon’s induction into the PFF Executive Committee is expected to further strengthen ties between academic institutions and national sports organizations, opening up new avenues for student-athletes and contributing to the growth of football in Pakistan from grassroots to professional levels.
