ISLAMABAD, Oct 20 (APP):The ITF Pakistan International J-30 Junior Tennis Championships 2025 commenced at the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Complex in Islamabad on Monday, with PTF President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi formally inaugurating the event alongside Secretary General Col (R) Zia-ud-Din Tufail.
The opening ceremony, also attended by all foreign players and their coaches, reflected a lively international atmosphere. Young players from China, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Lithuania, Russia, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom and Pakistan are featuring in the week-long tournament.
Speaking on the occasion, Aisam expressed satisfaction over the arrangements and thanked all stakeholders for their cooperation in hosting the event. He underlined the significance of such international competitions in nurturing young talent and promoting global sporting ties. The PTF chief also acknowledged the Islamabad Police Security Division for ensuring comprehensive security at the venue.
Col (R) Zia-ud-Din Tufail, the PTF Secretary General extended best wishes to the participants and praised the organisers for the event’s smooth conduct and professional arrangements.
A total of 11 Boys’ Singles matches were played on the opening day.
The day’s highlight was a major upset as Zohaib Afzal Malik of Pakistan outplayed eighth seed Shehryaar Anees, also from Pakistan, in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Malik’s dominant performance drew appreciation from spectators.
In another absorbing encounter, Wild Card entrant Abdul Basit overcame a tough challenge from Thailand’s Pisutharnonth Chanapat, rallying from a set down to win 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 after a gruelling contest.
The J-30 event, sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), offers young players an opportunity to gain valuable international experience and earn ranking points on the junior circuit.
