IOC awards scholarships to Pakistani sportsmen

LAHORE, Oct 20 (APP)- IOC Olympic Solidarity has awarded Olympic scholarships to two Pakistani sportsmen on the special request of Pakistan Olympic Association.

“The scholarships have been awarded to Muhammad Karim and Mir Nawaz of Ski Federation of Pakistan for preparation for the XXIII Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018,” said Muhammad Khalid Mahmood, Secretary, POA here on Thursday.

The programme has been designed to improve the competitiveness of the Olympic Winter Games rather than to expand artificially the universality of these Games.

The Olympic Scholarship starting from November first has been divided into separate terms for a four month period each. The four terms will commence on 1st November 2016, 1st March, 2017, 1st July, 2017 and 1st November 2017. Each athlete will be awarded USD1,500/- per month scholarship for training and preparation. In addition the Olympic Solidarity will offer USD5,000/- funding to scholarship holder to cover their transport costs for participation in Olympic qualification competitions, he said.

Lt Gen ® Syed Arif Hasan, President, POA has congratulated and wished Ski Federation of Pakistan a very successful training program for preparing and attempting to qualify for the XXIII Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018.
