International Day of Sports for Development to be celebrated: Minister

LAHORE, Mar 28 (APP):Punjab Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti Thursday said that International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) would be celebrated on April 6 during the opening ceremony of 72nd edition of Punjab Games.
The 72nd Punjab Games is being organized jointly by Sports Board Punjab and Punjab Olympic Association at various venues in Lahore from April 3 to 6.
“Pakistan is a peace-loving country and we will celebrate International Day of Sport for Development and Peace during the Punjab Games with full fervor. Our athletes will hold White Cards during Peace March at the grand opening ceremony of Punjab Games to show solidarity with peace,” he added.
Punjab Sports Minister said said that April 6 was a historic day and United Nations (UN), in collaboration with International Olympic Committee (IOC) had declared April 6 as International Day of Sport for Development and Peace and it was celebrated by millions of people throughout the world every year.
He said sports always played major role in defusing tensions and resolving key issues amicably.
“The Punjab Games is an appropriate platform to reflect the peaceful image of Pakistan. Our youth will demonstrate great zeal and passion to promote the message of Peace through Sports,” he explained.
