ISLAMABAD, Jun 16 (APP): Pakistan hockey team Chief Coach Olympian Tahir Zaman believes the Hockey-5 Championship will bring revolution in revving the national game in the country.

The inaugural Hockey-5 championship will be played in Lahore from June 18 to 25 under Floodlights. Hockey-5, a faster version of the game, is considered equivalent of the Twenty20 cricket.

Talking to APP, Tahir Zaman said the inaugural Hockey-5 championship will be a step in reviving the national game.

“After holding the first Hockey-5 championship, the event will be moved to schools in order to engage maximum youth in healthy activities,” he said.

Tahir said this event is very important for Pakistan hockey in the current circumstances as most of the junior players would participate in it.

“The same boys will go on a European tour and later participate in the Junior Hockey World Cup,” he said.

He said Hockey-5 championship can be played in grounds and astro-turfs. “There periods of 12 minutes will be played in the championship,” he said.

The chief coach said that all preparations for the mega event has been finalised. “This championship is believed to attract as many as crowds to the stadium,” he said.
