Govt provides over Rs 1.2 bln financial assistance to Sports Federations in last five years, NA told

ISLAMABAD, Jan 18 (APP):The government has provided over Rs 1.20 billion financial assistance/grant to affiliated National Sports Federations for promotion of sports during the last five years, Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Dr Fehmida Mirza told National Assembly.

In a written replying to a question of Gul Dad Khan, she said Pakistan Sports Board has allocated no funds for development of sports infrastructure in erstwhile Fata.

Replying to a question Muhammad Aslam Khan she said Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has been provided Rs 425.77 million by Federal Government through Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) during the last five years.

She said Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) had provided a sum of Rs 121.5 million to Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) for promotion of squash but unfortunately the performance of Squash is deteriorating.

She said Pakistan Hockey Federation has been asked to explain reasons of persistent deterioration and downfall of Hockey as to why the performance has gone down. PHF has constituted an inquiry committee to ascertain reasons of deterioration.

Auditor General of Pakistan is conducting last five year’s forensic audit of Pakistan Sports Board and 14 major sports federations including Hockey and Squash. The report is still awaited.
