LAHORE, Nov 21 (APP):Former test cricketer turned umpire Mohammad Nazir (Junior) passed away after protracted illness at a local hospital here on Thursday. He was 78.
Nazir Junior represented Pakistan in 14 test matches and four ODIs between 1969 and 1984 and claimed 39 wickets. He was the first spinner to claim seven wickets for 99 runs in his debut test against New Zealand in 1969.
He turned to umpiring after retiring from professional cricket. He officiated in 15 ODIs and five test matches as an umpire.
Nazir Junior was revered for his cricketing acumen and contributions towards nurturing raw talent.
Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi and the cricketing fraternity have expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of the former cricketer and umpire. Mohsin Naqvi paid rich tributes to Nazir Junior’s services to Pakistan cricket.
