DG, SBP meets Zaheer Abbas

LAHORE, Oct 17 (APP)- Director General Sports Punjab, Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghumman on Monday met the Head of Cricket Academies Sports Board Punjab Zaheer Abbas and both of them expressed their resolve to launch collective efforts for the promotion of cricket and other sports in the province.

Ghumman and Zaheer discussed the plans for the overall development of cricket across the province and other sports.

DG SBP Zulfiqar said: “Punjab Government and SBP are already striving for the cause of sports and SBP impressive performance during the last four years is a vital proof to it and SBP organised dozens of national and international sports events successfully during that period,” he stated.

“Pakistan athletes, under the banner of SBP, won several
international titles in various countries during the last four years’ period. SBP has also extended all the necessary facilities to Pakistan athletes for their participation in international sports events,” he asserted.

He said SBP was laying special emphasis on the creation of infrastructure throughout the province to provide modern sports facilities to the youth to channelize their energies in positive way.

“We will be benefitting from the experience of former cricket great Zaheer Abbas and with his presence in our cricket academies and we are confident that we will be able to create a pool of young talented cricketers in near future,” said the DG, SBP.

Zaheer Abbas, said the work has already started on cricket academies in the province. “These academies will play an important role in producing quality players for the country,” he said.

He said the prime objective of forming these academies was to provide platform to the youth to showcase their talent and learn the finer points of the game under the watchful eyes of experienced coaches to become quality cricketers in due course of time.

The former Pakistan captain praised the efforts of Punjab Government and SBP for the overall promotion of games, specially cricket by approving the setting up of cricket academies.
