Aqeel Khan annexes ATT Tennis Championship title

ISLAMABAD, Oct 30 (APP): Pakistan number one Aqeel Khan Sunday
clinched the title of OGDCL – Syed Tajammul Abbas Memorial ATT Tennis Championships by defeating his opponent Muhammad Mushtaq here at Syed Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex.

Aqeel built up the lead 3-1 by breaking 4th game of Mushtaq
and won the first set 6-3. Mushtaq started the second set in an
aggressive way as he built up 2-0 lead by breaking 2nd game of
Aqeel.

But Aqeel levelled the score 2-2-all by breaking 3rd game of
Mushtaq, the score went up to 3-all at this stage. He played some
attacking game on the net and broke the 7th game of Mushtaq and took  the lead to 4-3. He maintained the pressure and kept on running with  his powerful forehand and backhand drives, winning the set 6-3 by  breaking 9th game of his opponent.

The match lasted for one hour and 30 minutes. Aqeel Khan got $900 as winner, whereas Mushtaq pocketed $600 as runner-up prize. Both were also given away trophies. Aqeel Khan also  gained 12 valuable ATF Ranking points while Mushtaq got seven points.

Sixteen top players of Pakistan got valuable ATF Ranking points by participating in these ATT Tour tournaments. A total sum of $10,000
was distributed among the players.

Salim Anwar, CFO Askari Bank Ltd was the chief guest while Abdul
Rauf Khajjak, GM OGDCL, was guest of honour. They distributed prizes
among the winner and runner-up.

Senator Syed Dilawar Abbas, vice president Asian Tennis Federation, Salim Saifullah Khan, President Pakistan Tennis Federation, Tariq
Murtraza, President Islamabad Tennis Association, ambassadors of
Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan and other distinguished guests also witnessed  the final.
