WAH CANNT, Oct 21 (APP): Top seed Aqeel Khan and 2nd seed Muhammad Abid will vie for the top honour in the Men’s Singles event as they eliminated Heera Ashiq and Muzammil Murtaza respectively in the semifinals of 1st Chairman POF Board National Ranking Tennis Championships 2016 here at Ordinance Club, Wah Cannt on Friday.
In the first semifinal Aqeel Khan displayed quality tennis throughout the match. He won the first set 6-1 by breaking 4th and 6th game of Heera Ashiq.
In the second set the score reached 3 all as both the player held their own serves. Aqeel Khan won the set 6-4 by breaking the game of Heera and built up a winning lead 2 sets to zero.
In the second set Aqeel kept the same pressure on Heera Ashiq and won the 3rd set 6-4 by breaking 5th game of Heera, winning 6-1,6-4,6-4.
The match lasted for one hour and 50 minutes.Â
In the second semifinal, 2nd seed M. Abid defeated Muzammil Murtaz in a well contested marathon match which lasted for 4 hours and 15 minutes.
In the 1st set Muzammil played aggressive tennis and took the set 6-4 by breaking 7th game of Muzammil. In the second set Abid came back in the match by winning the set in the same fashion as first set score 6-4. At one time Muzammil was leading 3-1 in the second but he could not kept the same pressure on Abid as in the first set.Â
In the 3rd set Abid built up winning lead 4-2 by breaking 6th game of Muzammil, at this time Muzammil came back in the set and broke the 7th game of Abid. Abid won the 3rd
set 7-5 by breaking 12th game of Muzammil. Abid won the 4th set 6-4 and the match at 4-6,6-4,7-5,6-4.
