Alpine club to hold snow hiking contest for youth

ISLAMABAD, Oct 30 (APP): Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) will hold snow
hiking competition for the youth in January, next year to provide an opportunity to them to take part in healthy activities.
“We will invite applications for participation in the event in
December,” Qarar Haidri, the spokesman for Alpine Club of Pakistan (APC) told APP on Friday.He said that the contestants, including female and children would be
taken to the snow-laden hills of Donga Gali, Abbotabad in buses from Islamabad Sports Complex.Trekkers, both girls and boys from different parts of the country,
including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir would be welcomed to apply for the contest, he said. He said the contests would be held in different categories, including under 10, under 14 and open category.
Haidri said last time over 500 trekkers from different parts of the
country took part in the hiking contest held at pipeline track of Donga Gali adding that the number might get doubled this time as a large number of youth were taking keen interest in snow hiking.
The winners will be awarded medals, while all the participants will be
given away certificates for taking part in the event, he added.
He said the Club was making all out efforts to promote rock, ice and
sports climbing, trekking and other adventure activities in the country.
He said that for the past few years the Club had been continuously
organizing different events to attract youngsters towards healthy activities. “œWe are getting very positive response from the youngsters. Keeping in view the interest of a large number of youth we are planning several other events for them, he maintained.
