1st Cannon Foam Cricket Challenge Cup

LAHORE, Feb 06 (APP):The first Cannon Foam Cricket Challenge
Cup 2018 will roll into action from February 15 at various grounds
of the city and 57 teams of active and non-active clubs of Lahore
East Zone and Lahore High Court Bar take part.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday at the SJAL office
on Tuesday, tournament committee patron-in-chief Sheikh M Ibrahim,
along with Golden Star Cricket Club president Wasif Zaman, Lines
Club member Shafiullah Khan and tournament committee secretary
Shahbaz Ali, said: “The purpose of holding this tournament is to
promote cricket at grass-root level. We are holding this event
in Lahore East Zone, because this zone has honour of producing
Abdul Qadir, Aamir Sohail, Hamayun Farhat, Imran Farhat, Nadeem
Ghauri, Naveed Anjum, Akram Raza and many more big names which
not only earn good name and fame for themselves but also for the
zone and the country at international level”.
“Due to less cricket activities in this zone, it has stopped
producing world class cricketers, so we have decided to revive
cricket activities here and help the region and the country to
get best cricket talent from this particular area, who may serve
the country in the best possible manner. I hope this tournament
will not only provide a good platform to the youngsters of East
Zone to exhibit their prowess at higher level but also provide
them opportunities to excel at higher level by showcasing their
skills and by giving best performances during the tournament”,
he added.
Sheikh Ibrahim also announced that just before the final of
the event, the tournament organizing committee will arrange an
exhibition match of Sports Journalists Association of Lahore (SJAL).
He also thanked SJAL and it members for promoting sports particular
cricket and hoped they would continue support such healthy activities
by giving them best coverage and by highlighting the best outcome
of the tournament.
Wasif Zaman thanked Sheikh Ibrahim for extending his all-out cooperation and support for conducting this tournament and hoped
he would continue to support them whenever his support and cooperation would needed. He said that though the policy of Pakistan Cricket
Board (PCB) regarding holding the private cricket tournaments is
a good one, yet there is a dire need to make it more easy and
friendly, as it would attract more cricket organizers to come
forward to organise maximum number of private cricket tournaments.
Lines Club member Shafiullah said that the tournament is being organised in order to keep our youth away from negative activities
and provide them opportunities to remain busy in healthy cricket activities. “We have nothing to do with politics, as the purpose
of holding this event is just to promote club level cricket and
hunt freshtalent, which may serve the zone, region and the country
in the best possible way”.
