SUKKUR, May 25 (APP):A World Bank implementation support mission visited the Sukkur Barrage to review rehabilitation works under the SBIP S1 contract, here on Monday.
The mission, led by Task Team Leader Francois Onimus, included Environmental Specialist Alfanso and Social Safeguard Specialist Imran ul Haque.
Officials from the Project Management Office SBIP, including Project Director Noor ul Arfeen Balouch, Deputy Director Technical Abdul Fatah Memon, Contract Specialist Abdul Razaque Memon, and Mechanical Engineer Mumtaz Ghumro, accompanied the delegation. Representatives from the Project Implementation Consultant team, Irrigation Department, and the Chinese contractor also attended.
Officials briefed the mission that targeted civil and mechanical works have been completed, with only finishing works currently underway. Phase 2 and 3 works are scheduled for completion by June 15, 2026, after which the cofferdam will be dismantled.
The mission held a meeting with the contractor at Camp A, where a presentation was given on engineering progress and environmental and social safeguard arrangements. The World Bank team expressed satisfaction with the completed and ongoing works.
The Sukkur Barrage rehabilitation project, funded by the World Bank, is slated for completion by June 2027.
