Three outlaws, including a proclaimed offender, were killed while two police officials sustained injuries when a police party transporting a recently repatriated outlaw came under attack near the Northern Bypass on the outskirts of Peshawar late Monday night, police said.

PESHAWAR, Sep 01 (APP):Three outlaws, including a proclaimed offender, were killed while two police officials sustained injuries when a police party transporting a recently repatriated outlaw came under attack near the Northern Bypass on the outskirts of Peshawar late Monday night, police said.
According to police, the proclaimed offender, identified as Mumtaz, had been repatriated from Bahrain through Interpol.
He arrived at Islamabad International Airport along with two police officials and was subsequently being transported to Peshawar under police custody.
During the journey, unidentified armed men attacked the police party near the Northern Bypass, triggering an exchange of fire between the police and the attackers.
Police said that accused Mumtaz and two Station House Officers (SHOs) sustained injuries during the attack. Mumtaz later succumbed to his injuries, while the two injured SHOs were shifted to hospital for medical treatment.
Two attackers were also killed during the encounter, bringing the death toll to three.
Following the incident, a fresh police contingent reached the site and launched a search operation to trace any other suspects who might have been involved in the attack.
The area was cordoned off as security personnel conducted a search of the surrounding locality.
Meanwhile, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr Mian Saeed Ahmad visited Lady Reading Hospital to inquire about the health of the injured SHO and review the medical treatment being provided.
Police said further investigation into the attack was underway, while details regarding the identity and motive of the attackers were being ascertained.
