Suspected extortion gang commander killed in police encounter
KARACHI, Aug 19 (APP):A key suspect allegedly involved in multiple incidents of extortion, firing and spreading fear in different parts of the city was killed in an alleged police encounter in Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan area, police said on Wednesday.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) District Central Dr. Imran Khan, the deceased was identified as Muhammad Bilal, son of Ibrahim, and was allegedly a key commander of the Samad Kathiawari and Jameel Chhanga groups.
Police recovered a weapon, ammunition and two mobile phones from his possession, the SSP said.
Dr. Imran Khan said the suspect had allegedly opened fire at a bakery in the New Karachi Industrial Area on August 10, injuring a police constable and two passers-by.
He added that Bilal was wanted by police for allegedly providing financial support to the gang through extortion, distributing extortion slips in different districts and resorting to firing when payments were not made.
Further investigation into the suspect’s alleged involvement in other extortion and firing incidents was underway, police said.
