NAWABSHAH, Mar 31 (APP):Abid Lashari, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and President of the National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) Pakistan, emphasized that lasting and transformative change in disability rights can only be achieved by strengthening Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs).
He stated that when OPDs are equipped with the necessary skills, trust, and resources, they move beyond participation and become leaders of development processes. “When OPDs are empowered, they not only participate in development—they shape it, lead it, and sustain it,” he said.
Lashari further highlighted that disability inclusion cannot be designed for persons with disabilities alone; it must be driven by them. He stressed that meaningful inclusion requires recognizing persons with disabilities as key decision-makers, partners, and leaders in all aspects of development and policy-making.
He called upon government institutions, development partners, and civil society to invest in strengthening OPDs, ensuring their active role in planning, implementation, and monitoring of programs.
“True inclusion comes when persons with disabilities are at the center of decisions that affect their lives,” he concluded.
