Sindh LG minister for swift execution, strict monitoring of Lyari Transformation Project

KARACHI, Mar 18 (APP):Sindh Minister for Local Government, Housing and Town Planning, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Wednesday, said that a Rs 5 billion Lyari Transformation Project was under implementation to improve urban infrastructure, ensure basic facilities to the public and promote economic and social activities in the area.
He was chairing a review meeting of the Lyari Transformation Project that was attended by the Additional Secretary Local Government, Project Director, senior officials of relevant departments and technical experts, said a statement issued here.
The meeting was briefed that the Lyari Transformation Project will be implemented in phases to align the area with modern urban standards. A comprehensive master plan has been prepared through National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK), covering improved water supply and sewerage system, gas availability, rehabilitation of stormwater drains, and reconstruction of streets and roads.
The project has the potential to transform the destiny of Lyari’s residents, the LG minister stated and reiterated the government’s commitment to its timely and high-quality completion, saying that addressing the issues faced by Lyari’s residents was among the top priorities of the government.
The minister emphasized that, as per the directives of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, any negligence, delay, or poor performance in such an important public project will not be tolerated, and all concerned institutions will be held accountable.
He directed that transparency, quality, and speed must be ensured during implementation, along with strict monitoring of timely fund releases and their proper utilization.
The meeting stressed the need for effective coordination among all departments to accelerate progress and achieve targets within the stipulated timeframe. It was also agreed to strengthen field monitoring systems, promptly resolve technical challenges, and prepare regular progress reports to ensure continuous high-level oversight of the project.
