Sindh govt working on Karachi under comprehensive plan: Sharjeel

KARACHI, Oct 06 (APP): Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has said the provincial government is pursuing a comprehensive development plan to transform Karachi’s infrastructure and improve urban facilities.
In a statement on Tuesday, Memon said particular attention was being given to infrastructure development, industrial and commercial connectivity, water supply and drainage systems, transport networks and other essential municipal services.
He said work was already under way on several major projects, including the link road connecting Port Qasim with the M-9 motorway, as well as the Red Line and Yellow Line mass transit projects. According to him, these initiatives are aimed at improving mobility and strengthening connectivity across the sprawling metropolis.
Memon said the proposed elevated expressway from Karachi Port to Qayyumabad would be another significant addition to the city’s transport infrastructure. The Karachi Port-Qayyumabad Corridor is expected to improve links between the port, industrial areas and major highways while easing the movement of heavy vehicles through densely populated urban roads.
He said the corridor would also connect Karachi Port with the M-9 motorway and other key routes through Qayyumabad and Shahrah-e-Bhutto, creating more efficient access for commercial and industrial traffic.
The minister said the Sindh government’s broader vision was to develop Karachi as a modern city where urban facilities were planned and delivered through an integrated system. He stressed that the city’s development was vital not only for Sindh but for the country as a whole.
“Karachi is not only the economic centre of Sindh but also of the whole Pakistan,” Memon said, adding that investment in the city’s infrastructure was effectively an investment in Pakistan’s economic growth and future.
