KARACHI, Mar 13 (APP): Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon on Friday announced to add more EV buses to Karachi’s transport system, while also introducing additional double-decker buses in the city.
Senior Minister said this while chairing a Transport department meeting here at his office.
He said the Sindh Government has further decided to launch new EV bus routes in Karachi before Eid and introduce the service in other districts in a phased manner after Eid. Significant progress has also been made regarding the launch of an EV taxi service.
Addressing the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the Sindh Government was carrying out work on all roads in Karachi on a priority basis and will engage with the relevant ministry to resolve issues being faced on the routes of the People’s Bus Service.
He stated that new EV bus routes in Karachi are being launched before Eid, and a new EV bus route from Gulshan-e-Maymar to Tower will begin operations next week.
He further said that the service will be introduced in other districts of Sindh in phases after Eid, while the People’s Bus Service will also be launched in Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Sukkur, Shikarpur, and Khairpur after Eid.
He added that the expansion of the People’s Bus Service to other cities aims to provide modern and reliable transport facilities to the maximum number of citizens.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said that, following Eid-ul-Fitr, Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed between Sindh Bank, SEDF, and SMTA regarding the EV taxi project.
He said that the Sindh Government is continuously taking steps to provide quality, affordable, and environment-friendly transport facilities to the public and will continue to make strong efforts to complete public welfare projects on a priority basis.
Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Managing Director Sindh Mass Transit Authority Kanwal Nizam Bhutto, and other relevant officials attended the meeting.
