Sindh Govt presents a pro-people budget 2026-27: Mayor Karachi

KARACHI, Jun 17 (APP):Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Wednesday said that the Sindh government has presented a pro-people budget 2026-27, focused on public welfare, including projects to improve water supply systems.
Inaugurating a major development project in UC-09 Lines Area of District East, Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that PPP-led Sindh Government’s vision is clear that is to resolve public issues as the top priority.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that providing basic civic facilities to citizens remains the top priority of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), and development projects are being carried out across the city without discrimination.
He said it is the administration’s responsibility to ensure quality civic amenities at the doorstep of citizens, and efforts are being made to accelerate Karachi’s development journey.
He informed that the project in UC-09 Lines Area has been completed at a cost of over Rs 132.1 million. Under the project, more than 232,000 square feet of tough paver blocks have been laid in internal streets and lanes, improving road conditions and facilitating better mobility for residents.
He added that to improve drainage and sewerage systems, over 12,821 feet of RCC sewerage pipelines have been laid. The installation of new sewerage lines of different diameters will help resolve long-standing sewerage issues in the area.
The Mayor Karachi further stated that 390 new RCC manholes have also been constructed, making the sewerage system more efficient and durable.
He said the completed project will provide better infrastructure, a cleaner environment, and improved civic facilities for local residents.
He added that similar development projects are being rapidly completed across all districts of Karachi, ensuring that the benefits of development reach every part of the city.
The Mayor Karachi said that this area had previously faced governance issues, but now its longstanding problems are being resolved with the cooperation of Pakistan Peoples Party and its allies.
He said issues in around 20 streets of the area have been resolved by KMC, along with improvements in sewerage and road infrastructure.
He noted that the area falls under Jinnah Town rather than KMC’s direct jurisdiction, and according to local officials, limited interest had been shown previously in resolving its issues.
He added that PPP has allocated special funds for the development of internal streets and is also carrying out development work in informal settlements where little work was done in the past.
He added that Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has directed that services be delivered without discrimination. He highlighted that within just 93 days, projects such as the Azeempura Flyover were completed, along with Shahrah-e-Bhutto, Taj Haider Bridge, and Karimabad Underpass.
Criticizing the federal government, he said the K-IV water project has still not been completed. He added that sanitation work in various towns is not being carried out effectively, although KMC has initiated its own measures in this regard.
He emphasized that PPP’s stance is focused on development and public service, and said that significant sacrifices have been made for peace in Karachi.
He urged citizens to adopt a positive outlook for the city’s better future, adding that under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Karachi will continue to progress.
