LARKANA, Mar 12 (APP): The Regional Office of the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh in Larkana organized an awareness seminar on the topic “Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace”. The seminar was held at the Shaaf Institute of Medical and Modern Sciences (SIMMS), Larkana on Thursday.
Consultant to the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh and retired District and Sessions Judge Syed Shakeel Haider, while addressing the seminar, said that any form of harassment of women at the workplace is not only a moral evil but also a serious legal offence.
He stated that under the Harassment of Women Act 2010, affected women are provided full legal protection, and the Office of the Provincial Ombudsman ensures quick hearings of their complaints and provides justice according to the law.
He said that if someone is harassed mentally or physically, there is also a law to deal with such acts and punishment can be given accordingly. However, it is necessary that no injustice should be allowed to happen to anyone and no crime should be supported. He further said that we must raise our voices against those who harass women in our homes, institutions, and society.
He added that the role of officers in institutions is very important, and it is their duty to prevent harassment within their organizations. Addressing women, he urged them to be strong and speak the truth.
He said that gaining awareness about the law is very important, and breaking the silence is even more important.
He further stated that every institution is required to establish an inquiry committee and ensure a safe working environment. If injustice occurs against women in any institution, they should contact the Office of the Provincial Ombudsman without fear or pressure, where they will be provided free and prompt justice.
He emphasized that empowering women and providing them with a safe educational and professional environment is the need of the time. He also said that such awareness seminars will continue so that incidents of harassment against women in society can be prevented and people can be informed about the law.
