SAU distributes over Rs4m in scholarships among 57 students

HYDERABAD, Aug 21 (APP):The Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam on Friday distributed scholarship cheques worth more than Rs 4 million among 57 deserving and high-performing students under the Professional Education Foundation (PEF) and Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal scholarship programs.
The SAU spokesperson Gul Sher Lochi informed that the cheques were distributed at a ceremony held at the Senate Hall under the auspices of the University Advancement and Financial Assistance (UA&FA). Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof Dr Altaf Ali Siyal presided over the ceremony and distributed the scholarships among the beneficiaries.
Under the PEF scholarship program, 50 students received cheques amounting to Rs3.875 million, while seven beneficiaries of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal received Rs149,030 in financial assistance.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Altaf Siyal said the university was committed to expanding scholarship opportunities for meritorious and deserving students so that financial constraints did not hinder their education.
He said the university was also preparing to launch a scholarship program through its own endowment fund, which would further strengthen financial support for students.
Registrar Ghulam Mohiuddin Qureshi said the university was rapidly digitizing student-related services including scholarships, admissions and other academic and administrative matters. He said efforts were also being made to promote a culture of job fairs and employment opportunities for graduates.
Director UA&FA Dr. Ghulam Hussain Wagan said more than 2,500 students had so far received scholarships amounting to around Rs100 million through various programs.
He said the university was working to bring industries, alumni, philanthropists and other organizations onto a common platform to expand scholarships and financial assistance, besides creating more opportunities for internships and employment for students.
Director Institute of Food Science and Technology Dr Aijaz Hussain Soomro and other university officials, faculty members and students attended the ceremony.
