SUKKUR, Mar 31 (APP):SALU Secures Competitive Research Grant for AI Driven Agricultural The Institute of Computer Science at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, has achieved a significant milestone by securing a competitive research project under the Sindh Research Support Program (SRSP) 2025–26.
According to a release, issued here on Tuesday, the project, titled AI driven real time pest and disease detection in Sindh crops using deep learning & mobile technologies,” has been provisionally approved by the Sindh Higher Education Commission (HEC). It aims to leverage artificial intelligence to help farmers identify crop diseases and pests in real time, with the goal of improving agricultural productivity across the region.
The research is led by Principal Investigator Prof. Dr. Riaz Ahmed Shaikh, with Dr. Rafaqat Hussain Arain serving as Co-Principal Investigator. Both are faculty members of the Institute of Computer Science.
Only four projects in the field of computer science were selected across Sindh, placing SALU among a select group of institutions recognized for research excellence.
The success marks a notable step forward for the university’s research capabilities and its contribution to addressing real world challenges in Sindh’s agricultural sector.
