Sale of wheat flour be ensured at fixed official rates: Commissioner Sukkur

SUKKUR, Aug 05 (APP): Divisional Commissioner Sukkur, Abid Saleem Qureshi on Wednesday has directed that the sale of wheat flour at fixed official rates be ensured at all costs across the division to provide relief to the public, particularly the low income segment.

He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting held in the Committee Room of the Commissioner Office, Sukkur.

The meeting was attended by all Deputy Commissioners of the division, flour mill owners and their representatives.

The meeting reviewed in detail the availability of wheat and flour, its sale at official rates and measures to prevent hoarding.

Commissioner Qureshi said that on the directives of the Sindh Government, effective action against wheat hoarding is underway, which is yielding positive results. He said that due to these measures, a significant decrease in wheat prices has been recorded in the market and to pass on its benefits to the public, it is essential to ensure that flour is also sold at the fixed rates.

He directed all Deputy Commissioners to continuously monitor prices in their respective districts and take legal action against those violating the official rates. He also urged flour mill owners to fully cooperate with the administration to discourage profiteering and elements creating artificial shortage. Deputy Commissioner Sukkur Nadir Shahzad Khan, Deputy Commissioners of Khairpur Mirs and Ghotki and officers of the Food Department briefed the meeting about the market rate of wheat flour and wheat stocks.

The flour mill owners and representatives present in the meeting assured the Commissioner Sukkur that flour would be sold at the official rates fixed by the Deputy Commissioners of the concerned districts. They requested that a portion of the wheat seized during various operations be released to the flour mills to ensure uninterrupted supply of flour.

Commissioner, while assuring all possible cooperation to the flour mill owners, said that the government will continue to take effective measures in collaboration with all concerned departments to provide relief to the public.
