KARACHI, Aug 28 (APP): Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi on Friday visited the Pipri Marshalling Yard and reviewed its operational activities, available facilities and ongoing development works.
During the visit, the Minister was briefed on the facilities available at the yard and the progress of development projects. He also inspected the container terminal and directed the authorities to complete its construction work by September 30th.
Hanif Abbasi ordered immediate measures to improve the freight sector and reviewed the overhauling of flat containers and railway wagons.
He said efforts were underway to make Pakistan Railways self-reliant and modernise its operations. He directed the authorities to enhance operational capacity to save time and resources.
The Minister also approved outsourcing welding work at the Pipri yard.
During the visit, Hanif Abbasi met gangmen and listened to their problems. He directed the authorities to ensure timely payment of salaries to the workers.
Chairman Railways, Chief Executive Officer and other relevant officials accompanied the minister during the visit.
