PSF Chairman visits FABLAB, research centres, stresses science, innovation for Youth

Chairman, Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akmal, visited the state-of-the-art FABLAB at Government Comprehensive Higher Secondary Schools, and reviewed research projects at leading universities, reaffirming PSF’s commitment to science education and youth empowerment, said a release issued here on Monday.

SUKKUR, Jun 22 (APP):Chairman, Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akmal, visited the state-of-the-art FABLAB at Government Comprehensive Higher Secondary Schools, and reviewed research projects at leading universities, reaffirming PSF’s commitment to science education and youth empowerment, said a release issued here on Monday.
Accompanied by Assistant Director Ms. Afsheen, Prof. Akmal was received by Senior Principal Prof. Uzma Naeem at the boys’ and girls’ schools. He was briefed on educational and technological activities being conducted through the PSF-established FABLAB.
Appreciating the facility, the chairman said FABLABs equip students with modern technical skills and foster innovation, creativity, and problem-solving. He said that such facilities are vital to prepare youth for the rapidly evolving global technological landscape and to align with Pakistan’s vision for a knowledge-based economy.
Later, Prof. Akmal visited the Marine Biology Centre at the University, where he reviewed student research on fish species and their significance for Pakistan’s marine resources and economy. He interacted with researchers and encouraged them to pursue impactful scientific work.
The chairman also monitored PSF-supported research projects at the HEJ Research Institute, Aga Khan University, and NED University of Engineering & Technology. In discussions with Principal Investigators and research teams, he reviewed project status, achievements, challenges, and expected outcomes. He stressed that research must be translated into practical solutions that contribute to national development and socioeconomic progress.
Heads of the visited institutions thanked PSF and its chairman for providing students and researchers opportunities to learn, innovate, and compete at international standards through initiatives like FABLAB and research support programmes.
The visit, PSF officials said, reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to promoting science education, research excellence, and technological advancement across the country.
