KARACHI, Jun 08 (APP): A program to mark “World Ocean Day” was held at an Auditorium of the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) here on Monday.
The event was organized by the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO).
Federal Secretary for Science and Technology Shahid Iqbal Baloch was the Chief Guest of the program.
While addressing the event, he said that protection of oceans is the responsibility of all.
He said that clean oceans and protection of marine biodiversity are vital for the future generations.
He said that marine life is facing serious threats from marine pollution and climate change.
Shahid Iqbal Baloch said that the waste management system is being further strengthened to eliminate pollution.
He said that oceans are not merely ecosystems but also foundation of life.
He noted that large-scale mangrove plantation plays a key role in environmental restoration.
He further said that developing countries face challenges such as coastal hazards and limited financial resources. He emphasized the need to accelerate efforts for the protection of marine biodiversity and oceans.
