Police claim busting major drug network in Karachi, 19kg ice seized
KARACHI, Sep 18 (APP):Karachi Police claimed on Friday to have busted a major network allegedly involved in supplying drugs in Karachi and other cities, recovering 19 kilogrammes of ice (crystal methamphetamine) and arresting two suspects.
DIGP East Farukh Lanjar and SSP Korangi Fida Hussain briefed the media on the operation at a press conference.
According to police, several members of the same family were allegedly involved in the drug trafficking network. A woman identified as Mehwish was allegedly its ringleader, police said.
Police said the ice was allegedly sourced from Afghanistan and supplied to different cities across the country.
During the operation, a woman and her brother-in-law were arrested, while police alleged that Hira, her husband Parvez, their son and brother-in-law were also involved in drug peddling.
The recovered ice was estimated to be worth around Rs250 million, police said.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar appreciated the police team for taking action against the alleged drug network. He said the performance of DIGP East, SSP Korangi and their team was commendable.
The Minister described the action against the organised drug trafficking group as an important development and directed that indiscriminate action against those involved in the drug trade be continued.
