NAWABSHAH, Apr 06 (APP): The National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) Pakistan marked the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (6th April) with a renewed commitment to promote inclusion, equality, and empowerment of persons with disabilities through sports and physical activity.
On this occasion, Abid Lashari, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, President of NDF Pakistan and Focal Person for Human Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Government of Sindh, emphasized the transformative power of sport in building inclusive societies.
He stated that Sport is not only a means of physical fitness but also a powerful tool to break barriers, promote social inclusion, and foster peace. For persons with disabilities, access to sports creates opportunities for confidence, rehabilitation, and active participation in society.”
Lashari highlighted that in Pakistan, many children and persons with disabilities still face barriers in accessing inclusive sports facilities, safe environments, and equal opportunities. He stressed the need for collective efforts by government institutions, development partners, and civil society to ensure that sports programs are inclusive, accessible, and equitable for all, he further added.
“Inclusion in sport reflects inclusion in society. We must invest in accessible infrastructure, inclusive policies, and community-based programs that enable persons with disabilities to fully participate and excel.”
NDF Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive development by integrating sports and physical activities within its rehabilitation and community programs across Sindh, benefiting hundreds of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The organization called upon all stakeholders to recognize sport as a catalyst for development and peace and to work collectively towards a society where no one is left behind. “Together, through sport, we can build a more inclusive, healthy, and peaceful Pakistan,” Lashari concluded.
