MQM-P rejects budget of HMC

HYDERABAD, Jul 10 (APP): The lawmakers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) have rejected the Rs6.3 billion budget of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC) because it allegedly ignored the required infrastructure development in the city.
Addressing the media at Hyderabad Press Club on Friday MPAs Rashid Khan Advocate and Sabir Qaimkhani besides local leaders of the party argued that the budget was approved in an undemocratic manner without proper debate.
Qaimkhani deplored that the HMC’s session was called for the sake of passing the budget after a long break of 8 months.
He claimed that the development outlay in the budget had failed to address construction and repair of vital roads, drainage and water supply lines, playgrounds and parks besides installation of street lights.
The MPA said the PPP managed to pass the budget with the support of the local government representatives of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).
Rashid pointed out that the condition of the graveyards in Hyderabad continued to remain very poor but no funds had been allocated for those graveyards.
He maintained that the old water supply and drainage lines which had been requiring overhaul for years had not received funding in the budget.
