The Karachi administration’s campaign continued on Wednesday against roadside encroachments that cause traffic pressure, the prevention of professional beggars, and the sale of unsafe gas cylinders.

KARACHI, Apr 01 (APP): The Karachi administration’s campaign continued on Wednesday against roadside encroachments that cause traffic pressure, the prevention of professional beggars, and the sale of unsafe gas cylinders.

Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi chaired a meeting of Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners to review solutions to various civic issues, including removal of encroachments causing traffic congestion, and the efforts and measures by the Karachi administration against the sale of unsafe and substandard cylinders.

It was decided that the campaign against the sale of unsafe and substandard LPG gas cylinders, roadside encroachments, and hotel string operations would continue.

The Commissioner directed that a comprehensive plan be devised to prevent the recurrence of encroachments.

The meeting was informed that over the past month, 212 encroachments had been removed. In connection with the sale of unsafe gas cylinders, 345 shops were sealed, a fine of Rs 2.8 million was imposed, and three individuals were arrested.

The Commissioner directed all officers to keep the Commissioner’s Office informed of their daily performance through the Commissioner Karachi Portal.

Assistant Commissioner Headquarters, Rabia Syed presented a performance report from the past month regarding actions against encroachments and the illegal sale of LPG cylinders.

The meeting was informed that in District South, 121 roadside encroachments were removed. Meanwhile, 21 encroachments were removed in District Malir, 44 in District West, four in District Central, three in District East, six in District Kemari, and 13 in District Korangi.

The encroachments were removed in District South from the locations include Mir Karam Ali Talpur Road, Mansfield Street, Tanga Stand Saddar, Burns Road, Shoe Market, Aiwan-e-Sanat-o-Tijarat Road, Bath Island, Clifton, Khori Garden, Lea Market, Railway Road, Old City Area, and Aram Bagh. The Commissioner took notice of encroachments being re-established in various districts.

It was decided that action against those re-establishing encroachments would be intensified, including imposing fines and making arrests.

The Commissioner directed that a comprehensive plan be formulated to prevent the recurrence of encroachments, coordinated efforts be made, and various strategies be adopted.

During the meeting, detailed consultations were held regarding the repeated actions on Mir Karam Ali Talpur Road.

It was decided that Mir Karam Ali Talpur Road in Saddar would be reopened for traffic.

The meeting was informed that Mir Karam Ali Talpur Road is a key thoroughfare in Saddar, which had been closed to traffic due to a proposed project. Due to the non-implementation of the proposed project, traffic was facing difficulties. It was decided that immediate measures would be taken to open this road for traffic.
