Hanif Abbasi, chairman PQA discuss port’s performance, operational system, future requirements

KARACHI, Aug 28 (APP): Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi on Friday conducted an official visit to Port Qasim. During the visit, he met with the Chairman of the Port Qasim Authority to review the port’s performance, operational system and future requirements.
The Minister was briefed on the overall performance of the port, its operational mechanism and requirements for future expansion.
Hanif Abbasi also inspected the yard used for coal-loading facilities and reviewed arrangements for transporting coal by rail.
He said planning for rail freight operations linked with ports needs to be made more effective and the capacity enhanced to maximize the movement of coal by rail.
The Minister directed the Pakistan Railways administration to reduce the time required to load a coal train from three hours to two hours.
He stressed that coal trains must operate with proportionate loads and warned that overloading would not be tolerated.
Hanif Abbasi said improving port connectivity with Pakistan Railways and making freight operations more efficient was essential for enhancing the country’s logistics and transport system.
