SUKKUR, Jul 20 (APP): Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) has achieved another major milestone in advanced cardiac care with the introduction of IVUS-Guided PCI, a state of the art technology that is being termed as a new era in precision cardiology in Pakistan.
Talking to Media on Monday, Interventional Cardiologist at GIMS, Dr. Niaz Hussain Abbasi said that the provision of imaging guided technologies at GIMS Cardiac Center is one of the greatest contributions of Founder and Director GIMS, Cap. Retired Dr. Raheem Bux Bhatti.
“One of the greatest contributions of Director GIMS Dr. Raheem Bux Bhatti to our institute has been the provision of state-of-the-art imaging-guided technologies, which have distinguished our Cardiac Center from others in the country,” he said.
Explaining the significance of the new advancement, Dr Abbasi said that among all recent advancements, IVUS-guided PCI (Intravascular Ultrasound) is the most significant.
“Unlike conventional angiography which shows only a two-dimensional silhouette of the artery, IVUS provides us real-time, inside-the-artery imaging. We can see from within the vessel,” he explained.
Dr. Abbasi said that this technology enables the interventional team to achieve four key objectives which were not possible with conventional methods including Real-time Inside-the-Artery Imaging, Accurate Lesion Assessment and Optimal Stent Deployment as well Better & Safer Outcomes for Patients.
“With IVUS, we can precisely measure the size of the blockage, select the exact stent size, and confirm whether the stent is fully and optimally deployed against the artery wall. This drastically reduces the risk of stent failure and future complications”, Dr. Abbasi added.
He said that under the visionary leadership of Dr. Raheem Bux Bhatti, GIMS is committed to the principle that advanced technology must serve humanity, and the introduction of IVUS-guided intervention ensures that every cardiac intervention at GIMS is safer, more accurate and tailored to the patient.
GIMS Gambat, which provides free-of-cost tertiary care, is now among the very few public sector cardiac centers in the country equipped with such high-end imaging-guided intervention facility.
