FUUAST organizes mental health and suicide prevention awareness workshop

The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) organized an awareness workshop on Mental Health and Suicide Prevention at the Seminar Hall, Department of Pharmacy here Tuesday, with the objective of promoting mental health awarenesss among students, reducing stigma surrounding mental health concerns, encouraging meaningful conversations, and emphasizing the importance of seeking timely professional support.

KARACHI, Sep 29 (APP): The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) organized an awareness workshop on Mental Health and Suicide Prevention at the Seminar Hall, Department of Pharmacy here Tuesday, with the objective of promoting mental health awarenesss among students, reducing stigma surrounding mental health concerns, encouraging meaningful conversations, and emphasizing the importance of seeking timely professional support.
The session featured Rina Kanwal, Clinical Psychologist, as the guest speaker. She sensitized students about mental health, emotional difficulties, stress, psychological well-being and the importance of seeking help during periods of severe emotional distress or crisis.
She emphasized that mental health was as important as physical health and that persistent sadness, overwhelming stress, isolation, hopelessness or other significant changes in emotional well-being should not be ignored. Students were encouraged to talk to a trusted person or qualified mental-health professional when they feel unable to cope with their problems on their own.
During the session, students were informed that academic pressure, family concerns, relationship difficulties, financial challenges, loneliness and other life circumstances can sometimes contribute to increased psychological distress. The participants were encouraged to recognize warning signs, communicate openly and seek appropriate support at an early stage.
